American Flag Christmas ornament made of mouth blown, hand painted glass. Measures approximately 4 1/2"

In 1772, the Continental Congress passed the Flag Act: "Resolved, that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation." This flag is sometimes called the "Betsy Ross flag" after a Philadelphia seamstress.

Research conducted by the Smithsonian National Museum of America History notes that the story of Betsy Ross making the first American flag for General George Washington entered into American consciousness about the time of the 1876 Centennial celebrations. *Wikipedia*
