The legend of Santa Claus is derived from the European figure of St. Nicholas. He became the jolly man clad in red - the folk hero all children dream about on Christmas Eve. Often early printed Christmas postcards featured Santa making his rounds in "new-fangled" modes of transportation, like a vintage race car!
