Christmas Ornaments that Represent Good Luck

Many of the Old World Christmas ornaments have special emphasis on good luck.....here's a few.

Geckos are almost universally regarded as a sign of good luck and they are welcomed into homes where they feed on insects. The traditional gecko circle is a symbol of keeping one eye on the past while focusing the other on the future.


Pigs have long been considered by many to bring good luck and prosperity. The German word "dickbauch" means fat stomach, and its is spoken often in December. Tradition says you must eat well on Christmas Eve to avoid being haunted that night and to insure prosperity in the New Year!

Teeny Bopper


Teeny Boppers were teenagers in the rock and roll era of the 1950s. They were zealous music fans, and fashionable girls often worn poodle skirts, chiffon scarves, bobby socks and saddle shoes. It was a time of exciting music and a new culture of youthful exuberance.

**Note Pence Christmas Tree Farm is located 30 min from the birthplace of the King of Rock and Roll - Elvis Presley! And yes....my husband has seen him before....not recently... but riding on the streets of Memphis on a motorcycle in the late 1950's!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!


The Shamrock is a symbol of the cross and the Holy Trinity. It has also been a symbol of Ireland and is said to be used by St. Patrick in his teaching. By showing how the three separate leaves of the shamrock were joined by one stem, he was able to show the people how God could be three in one.

Walter Rabbit

 
The Rabbit is a very shy and frail animal. Having no natural means of protecting itself, the rabbit is therefore dependent on the kindness of man and other animals for its survival. At Christmastime the rabbit represents the renewal of this faith in others to provide guidance, protection and kindness.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie was accidentally invented in 1930 by Ruth Wakefield in Massachusetts. She was trying to make an all chocolate cookie, but the pieces of chopped chocolate she added did not melt into the dough - the Chocolate Chip cookie was born! Today it is the most popular cookie in the U. S. with over 7 billion eaten annually! Wait! That doesn't count the ones consumed by my grandchildren....make that 7.1 billion)))

The Original Toll House Cookie Recipe

Ingredients


  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) Toll House Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
